Course Description
Situational Awareness Training in Healthcare is an 8-hour, applied professional course designed to help healthcare organizations improve safety, reduce risk, and protect patients, staff, and facilities through heightened awareness and proactive threat recognition.
Led by Brian Natale, Senior Vice President of Physical Asset Growth & Operations at Summit Health, this course delivers real-world insight into how situational awareness directly impacts safety outcomes across hospitals, clinics, and healthcare campuses. Participants will learn how awareness gaps contribute to workplace violence, patient and visitor incidents, theft, and operational disruptions—and how to close those gaps before incidents escalate.
Instruction focuses on human behavior, environmental cues, operational blind spots, and decision-making under routine and high-stress conditions. Emphasis is placed on empowering healthcare professionals—clinical and non-clinical alike—to recognize early warning signs, assess risk in real time, and take appropriate action consistent with organizational policy and patient care priorities.
The course also addresses how situational awareness supports de-escalation, communication, and coordinated response in healthcare settings where compassion, safety, and compliance must coexist. Content is tailored to the unique challenges of healthcare environments, including open-access facilities, emotionally charged interactions, and high patient volumes.
Designed to meet continuing education standards, this course supports professional development in healthcare safety, workplace violence prevention, risk mitigation, and operational resilience.
