Course Description

This 8 hour comprehensive course examines best practices and practical strategies for managing the critical “right-of-bang” phase following an active threat incident, with an emphasis on coordinated recovery, communication, and resilience-building through a multidisciplinary, evidence-based lens.

Instruction addresses coordinated response protocols, highlighting the roles of school administrators, educators, school safety personnel, law enforcement, emergency management, fire/EMS, and mental health partners. A significant focus is placed on post-incident reunification, recovery, and resilience, including family reunification processes, trauma-informed practices, continuity of operations, and long-term community healing.

Although the course focuses on K-12 schools, the information provided is highly relevant to parochial, private, and higher education environments. The presentation can be adjusted to accommodate participants' experience levels, ranging from introductory to advanced.

Designed to meet continuing education standards, this course supports professional competency development in school safety planning, crisis response coordination, and organizational resilience in K–12 environments.
